He cambiado a Debian Squeeze, pero no me reconoce la disquetera, quizás por
tratarse de una externa USB. Hice un modprobe floppy y contesta con.

FATAL: Error inserting floppy (/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-
amd64/kernel/drivers/block/floppy.ko): No such device

Alguno me puede decir como solucionar el problema.

Error inserte un diskkete ????????????
Sucede lo mismo, como si el disquete está insertado durante el proceso de
instalación y durante el arranque del ordenador.

Es mas largo que un dia sin pan.
Y lo peor es que no aparece la información que debería aparecer al
enchufar el floppy USB.

Como te ha dicho Mirón, la disquetera USB funciona como un dispositivo
de almacenamiento USB.

Haz lo siguiente:

- en una consola de texto ejecuta esto:

less +F /var/log/syslog

Luego inserta la disquetera y verás que al final del fichero aparecen
nuevas líneas: son la info relativa a la autodetección de la disquetera.

Te ha de salir algo parecido a esto:

Hubiera bastado con estas líneas, o podías haber usado pastebin. :P

Como ves, el módulo floppy no te hace falta para nada, ya que tu sistema lo
reconoce como un disco USB.

Por curiosidad acabo de probarlo.

El módulo floppy es sólo para disqueteras "de verdad", o sea,
conectadas a la controladora de disquetera de la placa base.

Si es usb funciona como cualquier otro dispositivo usb de
almacenamiento. A mi me la detecta el gestor de dispositivos del kde y
si le digo "abrir con el navegador" la monta y muestra los archivos.

Fíjate en /var/log/messages y verás toda la información.

Espero que te sirva. Un saludo.

No sé cómo lo hace gnome con los dispositivos usb, pero vamos, te tiene
que funcionar exactamente igual que un pendrive, si no, puede que la
disquetera no esté en buenas condiciones. ¿Funciona en otro equipo o
sistema operativo?

Pues yo lo que haría es lanzar en un terminal un tail -f
/var/log/messages y comparar lo que sucede cuando conectas un pendrive y
cuando conectas la disquetera, porque debería ser lo mismo.
